Mavic Rim Serial Number

How important are these stickers? A riding buddy of mine got some new 2004 Ksyrium SL wheels and the serial number stickers are on the left (non-drive) side on both the front and rear.
That by itself is no big deal, but every other Ksyrium we have ever seen since 2000 has them on the right (drive) side. Did the Mavic sticker guy just have too many beers, or is this possibly a grey market set?
And what is the deal with grey market Mavic wheels? Does the U.S. distributor refuse to service or warranty them?

Frequently Asked Questions:

How does Mavic measure their Zircal spokes?

A. They are definitely not measured end-to-end. The easiest way to describe how they are measured is shoulder-to-shoulder...or about 5mm less than the end-to-end measurement.

How can I determine the model year of my Mavic Ksyriums/Crossmax wheels?

A. Well, if you cannot remember when you purchased them, or if you acquired them used, you can usually narrow down which model year(s) your wheel is by the color or the spokes and/or the hub design. I am currently compiling photos of the different model year Ksyriums and Crossmax wheels for reference. It can be found here (above the FAQ section). If your wheels are 2010 and newer, you can email me the serial number that's located on the rim and I should be able to determine the model and the year with that information.

Is the M40592 Freehub body for Shimano/SRAM road only compatible with Mavic road wheels?

A. No. The M40592 freehub body is also used on the Mavic Crossride as well as Mavic Crosstrail rear wheels.

Why do you have Mavic spokes for wheels older than 2007 and Mavic doesn't?

A. As of right now, Mavic only stocks replacement parts for wheels 2007 and newer...so six or so model years. Next year it's going to be 2008, an so on. Why do I have spokes going back to pre-2000?!? Well, Let's just say that I found it worthwhile to search them out because of the amount of Mavic wheels still in use out there... This is a testament to their durability and design.

Why are the older spokes more expensive than the newer spokes?

A. The short answer is the basic economic principle of supply and demand.

I need silver Zircal spokes for my Ksyrium SL wheels, but I don't know the model year. Do you have these and what are the part numbers?

A. Mavic made silver Ksyrium SL wheels from 2004-2007. There were slight cosmetic changes with the 2006-2007 models. All parts (spokes, rims, hubs) are completely compatible for all 2004-2007 Ksyrium SL wheels. As of right now, I only have used spokes for these wheels. Last year I purchased all of the remaining silver Zircal Ksyrium SL spokes that Mavic had in stock. The part numbers for these spokes are: Front: 324-181-01, Drive Side: 324-182-01, and Non-drive Side: 324-183-01.

What's the quickest way to damage Tracomp (carbon) spokes...besides getting a pedal stuck in the wheel?

A. By not removing the Tracomp Ring in the hub before turning the spoke while trying to true the wheel.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, for the most part. There are a few countries that have been very problematic (Thailand, Singapore, Maiasia, Indonesia, China). If you want to ship to any one of these countries AND you are legit, feel free to contact me with what you need and your shipping information. I will respond ASAP. I ship spokes and all other small parts (except rims) via USPS Priority International and is usually $24.95US and takes 7-10 business days. It sometimes takes longer because of customs, etc. Rims are really expensive to ship internationally because of the dimensions of the box. Prices usually start at around $250US and can go much higher.

Do you have (fill in the blank) in stock? How much is it?

A. If it is listed as available on the the RogueMechanic Store page, then I usually have them available. The prices are also listed there.

What if I need something that isn't listed on your site?

A. I do accept special orders as long as the product(s) are still available from Mavic. I require full payment in advance (including shipping). I will also let you know when you can expect to receive your order (typically 2-3 weeks at the most for domestic orders).
